Volae Club and Stuff

2004 Volae Club
The 2004 Price/Performance King of Highracers as far as I am concerned.
Topeak Road Morph Pump
This goes inside my Carbon Seat Bag. Great pump. I love the built-in gage, and the ability to pump against the ground, rather than my hands.
B&M Cyclestar Mirror
Great mirror, perfect positioning for the Club. Get one.
Terracycle Easy Reacher Under-Seat Rack
Just installed this weekend. This thing is exquisite. The machining is perfect. It fit the frame tube like a glove. And it's really easy to reach into the panniers on this rack while seated on the bike. I'm worried about the extra frontal area, but I haven't had time to do any roll-down tests with panniers on yet.
Old Man Mountain rear rack
Just got this installed this weekend. It works really well, and seems to be fitted perfectly. Caveat: The bolts to attach to the rear drop-outs were too long. On the left side, my kickstand adapter took up the extra space needed. I had to add 3 washers on the right side so the bolt wouldn't stick through and rub the chain/cassette. Installers take note.

If the panniers don't work out, I'll try a tailbox on top of this rack.

FastBack Carbon Seat Bag
This is a great bag. I wish I had gotten the neon yellow, instead of the black. This is big enough for lunch, a cable lock, phone, keys, wallet. There's a zippered pocket on the top back that I've kept my Cool-Tool in. Note that to put this on/off I have to remove the headrest. The opening in the top of the bag is just barely too small to fit over the flared headrest. There is a loop on the back for a flasher.
FastBack Bottle System
I've had the Bottle System since I first got the Club. The pouch was big enough to hold a spare tube, tire tools, my Cool Tool, and a Multi-Tool. Not much else. I have a Topeak Road Morph pump that I held on the other side of the seat with the wrap-around straps from the pouch. I liked this bottle "cage" (really a cloth bag). Alas, the more I rode, and leaned the seat back, the more I realized that getting the bottle in and out was a little awkward. So recently I bought a bladder and the FastBack Carbon Hydration Pack.
Fastback Carbon Hydration Pack
For the club rides, this thing is great. The bladder lies up under your back. Per the directions, you want to think about running the tube up under your arm rather than over your shoulder. I've only ridden with it once, and this is my first bladder. I found that having to suck the air out of the tube before getting something to drink was annoying. You also want to make sure you have a clip such as the CamelBak one to clip the tube to your shirt. The removeable tool pouch was nice, but too small for the array of stuff (beyond tools) I carry. I'd really like to see FastBack sell this pack with the Carbon Seat Bag as a combo. That would be a truly great combination. I might be inclined to put my spare tube and tools in the hydration pack, and drop the bladder in the seat bag. I haven't tried that on the road yet, just in the garage.
Cateye EL-500
On the Volae, the handlebars obscure the near area immediately in front of the bike. As a result, I have to point the light further out than on an upright. Of course, this means the light isn't as bright as one might like. From the standpoint of others seeing the bike, this is a GREAT light. Esp. when stuffed with rechargable batteries. I'm thinking of a helmet mounted light to augment this. Just got it. Not bright enough to ride in the dark without any other light. Probably would be fine on upright bike.
Volae T-Bar Light Mount
This thing is worth it just to have the extra handle to pick up the front of the bike. I've only just this weekend mounted a light on it. I've had the T-Bar for about a year.
Crank Bros Candy SL pedals
My first set of cleats. Still getting used to them. Some additional knee discomfort. Should I have bot the Bebop or Speedplay? I don't know yet.
Cateye Astrale 8 Cyclocomputer
I love this computer. Cadence is about all I use a computer for. The other functions I only use when I get off the bike (such as to find out how far we really went today).
Ortlieb Sport Packer Plus Panniers
Haven't really used these yet. I like the fact that they clasp (surround) the top tube of the rack instead of just hooking over. They just arrived. Look to be very well made.
